While Drouin is one of Baw Baw’s larger towns it still maintains its endearing country charm.
Located in an area of undulating countryside, Drouin gets the best of both worlds, a well-serviced town and scenic outlooks set in picturesque surroundings. During the summer months, the town takes on the vibrant colour of the flowering Ficifolia gum trees which line the town’s major streets. The town even holds a festival to celebrate the beauty of the Ficifolia.
Drouin is home to several cafes and restaurants providing a range of cuisines from Italian and Thai, to Chinese and tapas as well as a family-friendly country pub. Just outside Drouin is Robin Hood, a great spot to take a picnic, relax on the banks of the Tarago River or take a paddle in the little creek during the warmer months.
The Drouin Craft and Produce Market is held on the third Saturday of every month offering locally made products. Those who want to stay longer can choose from a number of accommodation options including the popular Glen Cromie caravan park, motels and lovely little guest houses.
We were in neighbouring Athlone to view a property and stumbled upon an open house inspection in Drouin that day and met Elise who was the property manager for that home. A casual conversation with Elise led to us briefing her on what we were hoping for in our dream home. Elise was candid in her responses to our questions, could give us factual advise and in a few phone calls fixed up a visit to another house to inspect. She could get our specifications perfectly in one conversation and took us to the perfect home we could have envisioned. Thanks to Elise's expertise, people skills and market knowledge, we could secure our first home and will be moving in soon. The entire transaction from a chance encounter to the signing up has been one smooth journey.
